Federal Skilled Trade Program

Do you have experience in trades like electrical, plumbing, construction, agriculture, cooking, bakery or manufacturing? For candidates with proficiency in a skilled trade, the Federal Skilled Trades Program is an ideal choice to secure an Express Entry into Canada. The Canadian government offers over 100 designated trades and occupations under this program to attract talented foreign citizens into their country.Since the process can often be complex for aspiring candidates, we at S Sainiz Immigration Services work with each candidate to understand their unique skill set and advise on their application.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Federal Skilled Trades Program, candidates are required to meet the below minimum requirements:


  • Work Experience- A minimum of 2-years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the last 5 years
  • Language Proficiency- Minimum language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) on an approved English or French language test (Level 4 for writing + reading and level 5 for listening + speaking)
  • Education- Be qualified for a job in the skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
  • Financial Proof- A declaration that the candidate has enough money to support self and family in Canada. (Not required if one has a valid job offer from a Canadian employer or can legally work in Canada).
  • Job Offer-At least 1 year Full-time employment offer or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.

The National Occupational Classification (NOC) lists below categories as part of the Federal Skilled Trades Program:


  • Major Group 72- Industrial, Electrical, Construction
  • Major Group 73- Maintenance, Equipment Operation
  • Major Group 82- Supervisors and Technical Jobs in Natural Resources, Agriculture
  • Major Group 92- Processing and Manufacturing, Utility Supervisors, Central Control Operators
  • Minor Group 632- Chefs and Cooks
  • Minor Group 633- Butchers and Bakers
